PROLOGUE

A city boy, born and raised in Singapore, coming back to Malaysia meets small town of PJ girl living in Malaysia. He had never imagined coming back to Malaysia growing up and she had never (ever) imagined being together with a Singaporean.

How did they meet and come together is nothing short of a daring move, intervention of friends and some direction for the Lord. Here’s their life & love story of epic proportions.

CHAPTER I:

HIS STORY

Born as a smiley and happy baby and also the first boy was an joyous occasion for everyone. Known to crawl at extreme speeds.

Learning about life in the world with friends. This was also when I dabbled in the world of IT, robotics and micromouse. For sports it was none other than badminton and basketball.

Learning to be more bold in life by making friends and doing activities such as hiking, exploring abandoned railway tracks and going where both legs would take me.

Army life followed soon after, this was a time of discipline, learning self-mastery, building mental fortitude and where bonds of brotherhood was built for life. How many people can say they participated in the 21 gun (cannon) salute for National Day Parade?

Returning to Malaysia for further studies and being introduced to new culture, friends and family members. This was a time of great adventure. Did I mention this is when I also found Vanessa?

CHAPTER II:

HER STORY

Second daughter of loving parents, born on the 25th August, 1992. Loved chicken wings  and enjoyed being the youngest in the family.

Enjoyed an array of creative adventures: singing, piano, watercolouring, (except reading). Looked forward to every weekend for Sunday School at GLCKL.

Attended SK Assunta II. Welcomed two brothers, making them a family of 6. Had fun competing in district level choral competition and performing with the recorder contingent alongside the dikir barat.

Studied the sciences at SMK Assunta, took the additional pendidikan seni and particularly enjoyed visits to the Thinking Pool. Developed a love for journaling and jamming. Annual youth camps were the absolute highs of life.

Pursued studies in pharmacy at IMU and made meaningful friendships at CF. Enjoyed occasional stints in the industry, which later became the sector of career choice.

CHAPTER III:

BOY MEETS GIRL

An out of probability field,
Niles & Daphne-type story

1 + 1 = 1

Therefore shall a man leave
his father and his mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife;
and they shall be one flesh.

Wedding Timeline

Here is the breakdown for what to expect on the big day.

Our Vendors

Loraine's Embroidery

Decor by Kate Loraine Haban

Kate and I (Vanessa) have been part of the same local church since our teen years. She's been a dear friend who shares the same love for baking, watercolouring, music and ofcourse of Christ. Ecstatic to hear of Kate's newly aquired skill, we acquired her services to work on one of the most important decorative elements that held the symbol of our unending love; our wedding ring loop. Kate is also the decorator for our DIY-style wedding.

Rose Cakes

Cake by Rose Charles Moijih

I (Vanessa) grew up calling her 'Aunty Rose' and remined that way even well after my preteens. Tender at heart and tenacious in love for Christ, she has been a powerhouse of a worship leader, one who taught by example, the humble life of a servant-leader. Since she started her homebaking business, she has always call for birthday celebrations with a delicious cake. They are always sweet enough to satisfy the sweet tooth, and not too sweet to grab seconds (and thirds). She very graciously blessed Ian and I with a beautiful rustic cake for our engagement that truly made it a celebration worth remembering [insert cake picture]. It goes without saying that this celebration just wouldn't be sweet without yet another one of her cake as a centerpiece.

Pre-wedding photowalk by Joanne L

My (Vanessa's) frienship with Joanne goes way back to our highschool days in SMK Assunta, PJ. We met often during our daily morning prayer session in the prayer / CF room/ chapel. Fast forward to decade later, we met again through mutual friends and Joanne's skill for capturing moments first caught my eye when ... She has been particularly excited for the journey Ian and I have been on from the start, and has offered to capture snaps of us ever since. My experience curating ideas for our photowalk was met with a lot of enthusiasm.

As fate would have it, We met over a mission trip to Miri, Sarawak. I was coming from Singapore and he was coming from the sea finishing his journey on cruises as a chef. Through the following years we would go on another together in Japan where we went through a hair-raising, life illuminating experience together in ministry but on the side his cooking skills has also grown tremendously, serving it fresh with Sexy Cinnamon Rolls, we are glad to have him.
